5 Days Climbing Mount Kenya: Up Sirimon down Sirimon

Trekking Mt. Kenya

Day 1:Nairobi –Nanyuki
Leave Nairobi by public means accompanied by our mountain guide for lunch. Spend the remaining part of the day acclimatizing due to the sudden change of altitude. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Nanyuki.

Day :2 Nanyuki - Old Moses
Transfer from Nanyuki hotel breakfast to the Sirimon gate where the climbing starts, Walk through the rain forest for 9 km (5 hrs walk)to the first mountain hut-Old Moses (3300)for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Old Moses-Shipton Camp
After breakfast at Old Moses, continue climbing through Mackinders Valley to the second hut Shipton Hut (4200m) for Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: ShiptonHut- Pt Lenana - Old Moses
Early in the morning we climb to point lenana 4985 m (17,058).on a very clear day we should be able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro in the South of Mt.Elgon to the west and the Indian Ocean to the East. We descend to Shipton camp for main breakfast and soon after descend to old Moses for the night.

Day 5: Old Moses – Nairobi.
After breakfast transfer from Old Moses to catch transport back to Nairobi where the tour ends.

What to bring on trekking either Kilimanjaro or Mt.Kenya?
Waterproof rucksack with day pack
Sleeping bag (covering at least 3 seasons)
Roll mats and insulation pads
Comfortable hiking boots, light walking trainers thongs (flip - flops)
Gaiters (useful when encountering snow)
Wooden walking stick / ski pole
Sunglasses or snow – goggles, sun hat, balaclava or woolen hat
Warm scarf, gloves, mittens and thermal underwear
Sweaters / jumpers, anorak / raincoat, water and windproof pants, jackets, t-shirt, several pairs of socks
Long sleeved shirt with collar, small towel, toiletries and toilet paper
Sunscreen and lip salve
First – aid kit and insect repellent
Flash light (head mounted preferable) and spare batteries
Pocket knife
Water bottle
Whistle, some plastic bags
Camera with spare film and batteries
Notepad with pen/pencil
