Tour Overview

5 Days Mt Kenya Climbing is the most common package preferred by most of the climbers. 1 Day Mount Kenya Acclimatizing in Nanyuki Simba Lodge. The 5 Days Mount Kenya Trekking takes you to all Camps, old Moses camp 3300m, Shipton 4200m which can be organized as Basic camping or bandas.

Day to Day Tour Plan

Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki Town – Simba Lodge

Departure from Nairobi is at 0900 hrs (either from hotel or airport) to Nanyuki. The drive takes about 3 and half hours with 10 minutes stopover at the Africana Curio shop for washroom and stretching, we then depart and drive for another one and a half hours with brief stopover at the Equator for photography and Continue to Nanyuki where you check in your hotel.Have lunch in the Hotel and then familiarize with the climate, you can also have a walk in this famous town, you will be able to meet other trekkers either who will be going up or some who have just ended their trekking. Nanyuki town is famous for its position which is at the base of Mt. Kenya, most of the trekkers prefer to spend their first night here so that they can acclimatize and prepare for the trekking the following morning. The whole of the  afternoon is spend preparing for the hike. Dinner and overnight at the Nanyuki Simbas Lodge.

Day 2: Nanyuki to Old Moses Camp

Wake up at 0730am have your breakfast, then transfer from your hotel to Sirimon gate we spend about 20 minutes for park entry formalities and then hike to Old Moses Camp , hike through mountain forest, bamboo and rosewood up to the Old Moses Hut, gaining an elevation range of 700m in 3-4 hours. This takes 3 to 4 hrs hikes (9 kms). Old Moses is where you acclimatize as you also come across different vegetation. (Judmair Camp) for dinner and overnight (3300m)

Day 3: Old Moses – Shipton Camp

After the breakfast, prepare yourself and re-arrange the bag as we ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley, in this beautiful little valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, two ancient parasitic vents of the main peaks. {3990m}. Climb out of the Nortn Valley and into the Mackinders Valley one of the broadest valleys on the Mountain, with many giant groundsels with good views of the main peaks and a brief stopover for picnic lunch along the valley. After lunch we will have like 3 hours to ascend to Shipton Camp jsut bellow the main peak of Batian and Nelion this normally takes 7-8hrs to get to the Shipton Camp. On arrival have a cup of hot coffee or tea as you wait for the dinner to be served. Dinner and overnight in Shipton Camp 4200m

Day 4: Shipton – Lenana – Shipton – Old Moses

Alpine ascent to the highest peak Pt. Lenana {4985m}starts at 0300hrs, taking 3-4 hours to reach Pt. Lenana 4985m (the hikers summit) in time to watch the sunrise. En route up the North Face little used by tourists, Four hours stiff walking to the summit. This is the most challenging bit of the Mount Kenya Trekking and will require a strong mind to reach to the summit. On a clear day you can see the snow capped summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro miles away to the south. We normally get to the summit around 0600.0630hrs before the sun rise, take the photos as many as you can and then descend back to Shipton’s camp for breakfast. After the breakfast you will have like 2 hours relaxing in the Bandas as you prepare to descend further to Old Moses camp,dinner and overnight in the Old Moses Camp.

Day 5: Old Moses – Park Gate – Nanyuki – Nairobi or Samburu Safari

This day will be a great day for the trekkers, its an easy day to go by, take your breakfast around 0800am, then check out and start descending to the Park gate. Upon arrival you will be met by our driver who will transfer you to Nanyuki town for lunch. After lunch proceed to Nairobi arriving late afternoon with a drop off to your hotel or back to the Airport to catch up with your flight back home or to the next destination.

What to bring on trekking either Kilimanjaro or Mt.Kenya?

  1. Waterproof rucksack with day pack
  2. Sleeping bag (covering at least 3 seasons)
  3. Roll mats and insulation pads
  4. Comfortable hiking boots, light walking trainers thongs (flip – flops)
  5. Gaiters (useful when encountering snow)
  6. Wooden walking stick / ski pole
  7. Sunglasses or snow – goggles, sun hat, balaclava or woolen hat
  8. Warm scarf, gloves, mittens and thermal underwear
  9. Sweaters / jumpers, anorak / raincoat, water and windproof pants, jackets, t-shirt, several pairs of socks
  10. Long sleeved shirt with collar, small towel, toiletries and toilet paper
  11. Sunscreen and lip salve
  12. First – aid kit and insect repellent
  13. Flash light (head mounted preferable) and spare batteries
  14. Pocket knife
  15. Water bottle
